What is the Warrior Diet?

In 2002, Ori Hofmekler published The Warrior Diet. The Warrior Diet focuses on under eating during the day and overeating at night. Many diets have strict guidelines like not eating anything after 8pm or only having food during the day and none at night. The Warrior Diet contents that there are 10 misconceptions of how to diet and what and when to eat.

They call these misconceptions fallacies. The Warrior Diet promotes that the under eating phase will help maximize the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS). Doing this will help the body to fight or react to stress and will in turn give the body more energy, help the body burn more fat and give the body what it needs to handle stress. The overeating phase will help maximize the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS).

Doing this will make the body calm down and relax which will aid in digestion and making sure the proper nutrients are repairing and growing. The production of cellular factors is stimulated in this overeating phase. These cellular factors could be Cyclic AMP or GMP and they stimulate hormone synthesis and fat burning during the day and protein synthesis and growth during the night.

The Ten Fallacies

1. The most important meal of the day is breakfast.

* The Warrior Diet claims that the worst time to eat is in the morning. The theory is that the stomach is empty and the body has the most amount of energy to burn fat before food is consumed. After food is consumed, the body slows down and the energy production is shut down. Having high protein foods such as yogurt and high carb foods like bananas after exercising will help the body keep the fat burning energy high in the body.

2. Having a meal before exercising will provide instant energy for the muscles.

* The Warrior Diet claims that food must be completely digested in order to provide muscles with nutrients and energy. When eating before exercising the brain and muscles have to work in the aid of digestion and therefore can not fully work during exercise. The Warrior Diet suggests that eating right after exercise will be most effective.

3. You will get fat if you eat late.

* The Warrior Diet claims that our bodies digests and uses nutrients better at night rather than stressful hours of the day. Also growth hormone is at an all time high. The growth hormone builds muscle and bone and is a fat burner. 4. Fat will make you fat.

* The Warrior Diet claim is that fat is a fuel and muscle is the biggest organ that used fat. Some high fat foods can be converted to energy and burn fat if used properly.

5. Carbohydrates are your enemy.

* The Warrior diet claims that carbs are food for the brain. They produce fat burning energy and refusing the body of carbs can be dangerous. Eating simple cars have a larger effect after exercise than complex carbs. 6. Counting calorie intake is the best way to control weight

* The Warrior Diet claims that counting calories can be used as a measurement of food energy. There are consequences however to the metabolism if it is the principle diet approach and could have an adverse effect.

7. Eating anything, but in moderation is ok.

* The Warrior Diet claims that eating in moderation can be dangerous. Junk foods can cause an imbalance even after exercising. Proper proteins, exercise and a clean diet will help balance a diet.

8. You will lose weight with low carb product.

* The Warrior Diet claims that many low carb foods can be made with poor ingredients and a low carb diet will affect energy and the building of tissue. These product could also have lots of chemicals which in the long run is worse that having a high carb meal.

9. Consuming a fixed amount of protein/pound body weight will help build muscles.

* The Warrior Diet claims that there is not a fixed amount of protein that is required for muscle gain. Each person should find their balance.

10. There should be a fixed ratio of carbs/proteins/fat in a diet.

* The Warrior Diet claims that this idea comes from the fact that most people want a simple, quick fix. The body will adapt to the food we eat and the exercise we do.
